Oil on Canvas, signed, Buiteveld and dated 1787.
Dutch school XVIIIth-XIXth Century

Until a few months ago, no one knew about Jan Buiteveld. Right after our acquisition of the painting we acquainted Corinne Kuntz, an art historian researcher, of our will to find out some information about this “Buiteveld”, whose signature was apposed on our painting.
We thought that the painter might be Dutch and after vain research, Corinne Kuntz had the idea to consult the Dutch Central Bureau of genealogy.
They finally came with the answer.
Actually, Jan Buiteveld was born in Sneek (north of the Netherlands), in November 1747 and died in the same city in September 1812. It was mentioned in the register that his profession was painter.
We only know 3 remaining “still life” paintings, but his production must have been quite important. He spent most of his life in his native town, which must be the reason why we lost track of his work.

Appraisal by René Millet.

 <media:group>
Vase of flower. Oil on canvas signed Buiteveld.
